Resolution to change!

Resolution to change!
<<Extract from December 2012 Netsoft's News Letter

If we look at our life in the past there shall be various instances that shall highlight the way things have changed both internal and external to us. The change would have happened with the intention to improve or by the external force. We need to take time to realize that ’Change is the only constant thing’. To have a constructive change, it is imperative to know our life’s inspirational purpose, that purpose which shall benefit you & enriches lives of others. This kind of high purpose goal in our life shall makes us to start the day with full of energy and look for the next day with full of enthusiasm. As human beings we are genetically programmed to resist change and be in our comfort zone, gravitational forces are so strong that it prevent us from moving to higher levels of living. The rocket uses more fuel during the first few minutes after lift-off than it does over the days that follow when it will cover more than half a million miles.

‘Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it and virtue is doing it’ observed David Starr Jordan. Smallest of actions towards that high purpose goal is the right way to begin and commitment at the initial stage is important towards making that difficult change to a habit.

The resolution shall come to reality with the right steps like ‘Commit, Monitor, Practice and more important is to begin NOW!’

Persistence… Built to Last!

Persistence… Built to Last!

A short story – Fern & Bamboo.
Plant a fern and the bamboo seeds and do your best to take a very good care of them by giving light, water... The fern shall grow quickly from the earth. Its brilliant green will cover the floor. Yet nothing shall come from the bamboo seed. But do not quit on the bamboo! During the second year the fern shall grow more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing shall come from the bamboo seed. But do not quit on the bamboo!  In the third year, there shall be still nothing from the bamboo seed. But do not quit on the bamboo! During the fourth year, again, there shall be nothing from the bamboo seed. But do not quit on the bamboo! Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout shall emerge from the earth. Compared to the fern it shall be small and insignificant...  But just after 6 months the bamboo shall rise to over 100 feet tall. Bamboo would have spent the five years growing roots. Those roots shall make it strong and give it what it needed to survive.
“God’s creation shall not give any of its creations a challenge that it can’t handle."

All our struggling shall help us to grow our roots. "The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern ... Yet, they both make the forest beautiful." Being persistent & clear with our goal shall help us to rise higher & do our best to build the character, the career, the life & the company that we are associated.

Greatness is not a function of circumstance. Greatness, it turns out, is largely a matter of conscious choice, and discipline.  - Jim Collins

Management Research in future (India's Context)

Management Research in future

Management Research is getting newer dimension with the popularity of MBAs across the globe. The progress of the study of Management is drastic compared to the other disciplines, especially in India. With the growing number of enthusiasts in this field of the Research in Management is giving newer perspective to the discipline. Various sub domains under management research is added and the recent one being an Information System / Technology. As every domain gives various insights and poses a challenge for the researcher to select from the wide array of the subject, this further leads to exploring new research being conducted or giving a new dimension to the existing research.

Based on the way the industries are growing and changes in the lifestyle, the same way every research need to align with the current and future needs. The new buzzwords like cloud computing, cash on delivery, globalization, social media, a way of playing games, virtual world, dynamics in e-governance & many more… are opening a new horizon in the research field.

The future of management research apart from getting deeper into the current problems shall see a drift in exploring kind of unimaginable/not real (the way the Hollywood Movies are made) or it can go back to the square one of getting more insights from the great epics from history.

Few of the challenges, the future of management research shall face are as below:
  • ·        See greater challenges in getting the funds for the kind of extensive research that need to be conducted compared to the current or past research(s).
  • ·         The dynamics in the redundancy of research should be eliminated and an ecosystem should support to make sure that every effort of Research should lead to the real contribution of knowledge.

The agenda for core research in management should be towards making the outcome of the research being implemented at the real-time which can be in the business sense or at the academic level and primarily it should be able to address the current / future needs & challenges.

Lead without a Title!

Lead without a Title!
<<Extract from August 2012 Netsoft's News Letter

Leadership is not associated only with the title; Leadership can be demonstrated at every role that we play. No job is big or small; all that matter is how we perceive the given job & influence others with the kind of value additions, initiative & the responsibility we shoulder.

“In this messy, disrupted world we now work within, leadership at every level has become the single best way to win." – Robin Sharma

An individual with good character radiates & gets identified by his unique contribution, steps up to Leadership. Keep leading without a title, start now! John Ruskin said “Do not think of your faults: look for what is good & strong & try to imitate it. Your faults will drop off like dead leaves, when the time comes.”

Idea towards Business Growth.

Idea towards Business Growth!
<<Extract from August 2012 Netsoft's News Letter

Innovative ideas are the competitive edge for most entrepreneurial companies. As Dhirubhai Ambani said “Think big, Think fast, Think ahead. Ideas are no one’s monopoly.” Ideas can come from anyway and it is not limited to the company's boundary or to specific sources, what matters is the quality of the idea.

I urge you to come up with the productive ideas towards simplifying the work & process and make the delivery beneficial to all (customers, partners, you and the company).

“A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.” John F. Kennedy
“All achievements, all earned riches, have their beginning in an idea.” – Napoleon Hill

Ideas can be sought by the mindset of not knowing all, so that we can search for new ideas; learn good ideas from anything and everything, it can be from competitors, your inner circle, nature…; be genuinely interested in seeking new ideas and celebrate when someone comes up with the good one.

80/20 Rule - The law of vital few & the trivial many.

80/20 Rule - The law of vital few & the trivial many.
<<Extract from July 2012 Netsoft's News Letter

Habits are what we repeatedly do, consciously or compulsively. Some habits lead to disorders, whereas some leads to growth. It is self evident that 80 percent of the results come from 20 percent of the causes.  For example, Microsoft noted that by fixing the top 20% of the most reported bugs, 80% of the errors & crashes would be eliminated. The principle is concentrate on the vital few to make a significant difference.
Intel’s Andy Grove said, “No Matter where you work, you are not an employee. You are in business with one employer-yourself-and in competition with millions of similar businesses world-wide. Nobody owes you a career; you own it as a sole proprietor. And the key to survival is to learn to add more value every day”. This means, you must apply the 80/20 principle, as the effective sole proprietor does, to the chain of activities from resources to results. Use your skills and attitudes, your intelligence, emotional and spiritual quotients. Together they make you resourceful

“Thinking should become your capital asset, no matter whatever ups and downs you come across in your life”. – Abdul Kalam

Keep it short and simple!

Keep it short and simple!
<<Extract from June 2012 Netsoft's News Letter

Often in life we will encounter a task that seems needlessly complex. It is easy to get going with the way we are doing, but it shall pay us huge if we can take a moment to analyze and come with a workable solution which can simplify our tasks. Once we have identified the problem(s), all that is left is to take positive action to eradicate them with a ‘keep it short and simple (KISS)’ approach.
KISS strategy is very important for us to adapt in every aspect of our life, projects, tasks or activities that we undertake. Sometimes it feels like doing new things is better than looking for old-one’s, as looking for older information in complicated scenario consumes time. So, let’s start working & contributing towards making the things simpler that can be from organizing our files & folders (so that we can get it when we need it), keeping only the required files or things (than contributing to huge data which puts us in confusion in future), information to be made simple (so that the team or new person can understand it better), solution should be simplified (write fewer lines of code to get the desired result in an efficient way), …
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.  ~Leonardo DaVinci
Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.  ~Albert Einstein
